Welcome to the Vong's Origami Kaleidoscope. The purpose of setting up
this web page is to let more people have a glimpse at the development
of modern origami (paper-folding).
As a matter of fact , I only came across modern origami just a couple
of years ago at a public library. The first book that attracted my attention
was a book by the famous American origamist , John Montroll , - "Origami
for the Enthusiast". Before this , the only decent model that I
could fold was the traditional Japanese flying crane which I learned
from my mother when I was a boy. At that time , like most other people
, I only regarded it as some sort of recreation for children only .And
this misconception is very common in those places where origami is still
not very popular with the majority. However , the reason of being so
may be very simple , just because they don't have the chance to look
at the fruits of modern origami. Or perhaps , the only books about origami
they can find in the bookstores are for children only. Even if they
do find a book which suits their interest and level , there arises another
point that the drawings on many origami books quite often cannot reflect
the true representation of the finished models in reality. They may
look either over-attractive or unintentionally undermined. This , to
a certain extent , may discourage the enthusiasm from the beginners
or the will-be origamists. In view of this , this web page is set up
to give a true picture of how the finished models would look like by
displaying a collection of photos taken from the models which I've folded
. These models , which range from simple to complex , mainly come from
the works by accomplished origamists all over the world especially from
America , Britain , Spain and Japan etc.
As an amateur origami lover , like me , I want to point out that you
don't have to be an expert or equipped with special knowledge before
you can achieve those seemingly highly complicated models. All you need
is just a little bit of imagination , patience and dexterity. Most important
of all , of course , is your enthusiasm for origami. Anyway , the satisfaction
of being able to complete a beloved model all by yourself will surely
pay for every effort of yours. Finally , I sincerely hope that more
and more people will get interested in origami and be able to enjoy
the fun and well-being brought by origami. |
